The Celica name derives from the Latin word coeliac meaning “heavenly or “celestial. The Sixth generation Celica GT was powered by the 1ZZ-FE rated at 140 hp at 6,400 rpm and 125 lb. ft. of torque at 4,200 rpm. It uses Toyotas VVT-i (Variable Valve Timing with intelligence) system which modulated the intake cam phase angle to increase torque and horsepower throughout the rev range. This is a similar engine used on the Matrix, Corolla, and MR2 Spyder. Transmission choices comprised a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic. The GT has standard front disc brakes and rear drum brakes, 195/60/15 with standard wheel covers or optional alloy wheels. This Celica is finished in red with a clean gray cloth interior. The original family drop-top is equipped with an automatic transmission, power windows, and other power options. The Toyota Celica is climbing in popularity aligning with other Japanese classics.
