Used 1979 Toyota Land Cruiser for sale in Houston, Texas
Gateway Classic Cars Houston showroom is proud to present one of the cleanest examples youll find of the world-renowned off-road legend, the Toyota FJ40 Land Cruiser. These trucks are legendary in off-roading groups for being reliable and extremely agile due to their short wheel base. Given their track record in some pretty inhospitable places, well, its easy to see why these are growing tremendously in market value. However, all those wonderful features also makes finding a nice one challenging, since so many of these trucks have been bashed, abused, and just plain used up in the years before they made it to the collectors A-list. Fortunately, this 1979 Land Cruiser is very clean, with an awesome Dove Beige paint job and white top that really stands out. This 79 marks the first year of the final FJ40 version that was sold in the U.S. This particular example has restored with extensive attention to detail. The vehicle was completely dismantled before the frame was abrasive blasted to bare metal and then powder coated. All body panels and body tub have been abrasive blasted, with all rust having been repaired with either new panels or welded-in steel. The underbody stiffeners were removed, repaired, and reinstalled with all surfaces being blasted and then painted before reassembly. Etching primer was used on all bare steel body parts before the original Dune Beige color was applied to the body. The 1979 model year upgrades include a larger fuel tank (22 gallons), higher output alternator, and higher differential ratios for improved highway drivability. Other original equipment includes factory heater, power disc brakes (with front discs), rear seats, and OE internal roll bar. Other restoration work, including brakes, axles, and driveshaft refurbishment has been completed as well. The original 2F inline 6-cylinder engine has been left intact, and a Weber 2BBL carb has been installed on the OE intake manifold. This FJ40 did receive a performance exhaust header to assist in scavenging the exhaust gases into the new exhaust system. The transmission is also the original transmission and has all new gaskets and seals. New fuel and brake lines were installed, and a new fuel tank. The seat upholstery and dash are new, as is the complete headliner. As a result, youll find the interior is far more civilized than youd expect for a world traveler like this, with comfortable mid-rise bucket seats. Occupant comfort is further enhanced by the cold-blowing air conditioning, which provides year-round driving enjoyment for driver and passengers. Twin folding seats in back expand passenger capacity, and with durable non-slip rubber mat on the floor, you can get dirty without worrying about cleaning carpets when you get home. Toyotas 2F 4.2-liter inline-six have powered Land Cruisers for decades, and while it seems modest and underpowered, its proven itself time and again when conditions were less than nice. Around town, its smooth and torquey and the gear ratios are exactly right to make it feel quick and agile. The engine bay isnt highly detailed, but its nice to see the factory equipment is intact and has the added benefit of the decidedly non-factory aftermarket A/C. Backed by a 4-speed transmission and sitting on a set of P265/70R16 BF Goodrich Long Trail Radial T/A tires, this Land Cruiser for sale is sure please the traveler in all of us! Options on this gorgeous 1979 Toyota Land Cruiser include: Air Conditioning, 4x4, Power Brakes, Seat Belts, Vinyl Seats, and painted steel wheels wrapped in all terrain performance tires. Dont miss your opportunity to snag this beauty! This FJ40 is in great condition, and really should be seen to understand the full extent of the extensive work that was put into it!
