VEHICLE DESCRIPTION

Used 1968 Chevrolet Camaro for sale in Houston, Texas

Gateway Classic Cars Houston Showroom is excited to present this gorgeous Fathom Blue 1968 Chevrolet Camaro for sale. When its owner purchased the car, it was painted Butternut Yellow and had a black interior. However, during the cowl tag decoding, its owner and his brother (who is a GM engineer) discovered that it was originally Fathom Blue and had a Medium Blue standard bucket seat interior. Since restoration was already planned for this car, the decision was to go back to its original paint color, because it was a very rare color for 1968 Camaros. It turns out that roughly 1.3% of all 1968 Camaros were painted Fathom Blue. Since a blue exterior and blue interior was too much blue for its owner, he left the interior black, the way it was when he acquired it. He took it to Camaro Concepts in Houston in 2013 for the restoration, which was quite comprehensive. He had them completely disassemble the body to take it back to Fathom Blue. Since the original hockey stripe was white, he kept that the way it was. However, the original black vinyl top was changed to a much more attractively contrasting white to match the hockey stripe better. In all, this is one rare color combo, so youll be sure to get a lot of attention at car shows.Under the hood, a period correct 396 CID big block V8 provides stump pulling power off the line, while the Muncie M21 4-speed manual (which was rebuilt during the restoration) handles getting the power out back to the Moser 3.73:1 gears in the 12-bolt posi rear end. A slick Hurst shifter provides accurate gear selection, as well as cool vintage looks with its white shift ball. According to its owner, anything that needed replacing was replaced during the restoration, so you have a new wiring harness, new brake lines, new fuel lines, and a new fuel tank. In addition, a vacuum power booster was added to the brake system, and front disc brakes replaced the original drums for improved stopping power (it was originally a manual brake car with 4-wheel drums). Overall, the goal of the restoration was to take it back to being as original as possible, while adding a few minor improvements for safety and drivability. We think they succeeded nicely! Dont let this rare 1968 Camaro slip away - call or email our Houston Showroom today to make it yours before someone else does!
